Let’s talk heat

I deliberately chose to not go down the hot yoga studio route. Warm - yes, hot ? - a BIG no.

There are lots of hot yoga studios around should you like that kind of thing. But I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea.

There is also little evidence to substantiate the health claims they make. The research comparing hot v not is still pretty limited, but small studies seem to indicate that most of the benefits, like improved measures of heart health, more mobility, and calories burned, are about the same. Heat and moisture can wreak havoc on a building too. Plus quite simply I just don’t like working out in extreme heat and I have the casting vote 😁

So then I had to consider all the different ways I could cost effectively heat the studio. Sadly with the build cost being so high it meant that many green solution up front costs made the whole project unviable. Infrared heaters created hot and cold spots in studios where I’d been in the past. Underfloor heating was a little too much with some of my students simply unable to stay awake - think practicing on a heated blanket (back to hot yoga). Plus I have inherited a beautiful solid hardwood sprung squash floor. Why would I dig that up to put something inferior down? So central heating it was. But radiators are not the prettiest. And those that are (I found these amazing copper radiators) have to be covered to prevent burns.

Builders to the rescue. Phil came up with the concept to build them into the stud walls to prevent them eating up mat space and Keiran is building these incredible panels over the top as part of the integral design.

These are going to be painted this weekend by my little army of volunteer helpers. I think it’s going to be a gorgeous space for you !

I painted the bathroom this weekend too - a stunning teal paint called Goblin - can’t wait to see it with the oak furniture fitted and all the little copper accents !
